Traveling Tips For You and Your Dog

1. Know the Rules

While it has never been easier to travel with your dog, the rules for traveling with pets can vary between different hotels, airlines, and other destinations. Remember to double check the pet policies before you leave to prevent a future headache.

2. Papers, Please!

Not only should you remember to bring your dog’s leash and collar with their ID tag, but it is also a good idea to have their recent vaccinations or health records handy. You never know when they might be needed!

3. Take a Test Drive

It is very important to make sure your dog is comfortable when traveling. Before planning out a big trip, try taking them out on a shorter journey to make sure they are calm and comfortable in a moving vehicle.

Getting your dog used to travel will make your trip more enjoyable for everyone, so it may even be a good idea to start them out at a young age.

4. Pack A Bag

In addition to knowing the rules, you should plan a “puppy pack” as well. Be sure to include items like extra food, a favorite toy, a portable water dish, and some long-lasting treats to keep your dog busy.

If your dog needs any special medications, always remember to triple check that they are included as well.

5. Play Time!

A sleepy dog is a well behaved dog! Before you leave, whether by plane or by car, you are going to want to spend an hour or two playing with your dog and tiring them out. This also gives your furry friend a chance to use the bathroom in preparation for a long trip.
